# How to resize a shift

**For:** Manager
**You'll need:** A shift on a timeline view.

Drag the edge of a shift block to extend or shrink it.

## Drag the edge

1. Hover over the top or bottom edge of a shift block — the cursor changes to a resize handle.
2. Click, hold, and drag to the new end (or start) time.
3. Release the mouse.

The shift's duration updates; the opposite edge stays fixed.

## Verify it worked

The shift block grows or shrinks to the new length, and a toast confirms the change.

```{tip}
Holding **'Alt'** (**'Option'** on macOS) during a resize on a multi-assignment shift splits one person off into a separate shift — see {doc}`split-a-shift`.
