# Shift swaps

When swaps are turned on, your team can hand off and trade shifts among themselves on the {doc}`swap marketplace </for-shift-workers/browse-the-swap-marketplace>` — within the rules you set. Depending on your policy, a manager approves close-in swaps while ones further out approve automatically.
