# How to manage work rules

**For:** Admin
**You'll need:** The country (and state, where it matters) you're writing the rule for.

You'll create, edit, and delete the work rules that drive scheduling limits, overtime, and premium pay across your company. One form covers every constraint — identity, daily / weekly / rest limits, overtime tiers, premiums, and the Swiss night-work block.

## Open the work rules list

1. In the left sidebar, go to **Company → Work rules**.

You see one row per rule with its name, country, and the locations and employment types using it. Use the **'Filters'** panel to narrow by country, and click a column header to sort.

## Create a work rule

1. Click **'New work rule'** in the top-right.
2. Fill in the **'Name'** field, then choose the **'Country'** dropdown — and the **'State'** dropdown if your country uses one. See {doc}`identity-and-jurisdiction`.
3. Set the daily, weekly, and rest fields. See {doc}`daily-and-weekly-limits`.
4. Set the overtime tier thresholds and multipliers. See {doc}`overtime-tiers`.
5. Set the Sunday, holiday, and night premiums, and choose the **'Premium stacking mode'** dropdown. See {doc}`premiums`.
6. (Switzerland only) Fill in the **'Swiss night-work compensation'** section. See {doc}`swiss-night-work`.
7. Click **'Save'**.

You're returned to the work rules list with the new rule selected.

## Edit a work rule

1. Click the rule in the list to open its detail page.
2. Click **'Edit'** in the top-right.
3. Change any field, then click **'Save'**.

Changes take effect immediately for new shifts and on the next validation pass for existing ones.

## Delete a work rule

1. Open the **kebab menu** (⋮) on the row and click **'Delete'**.
2. Confirm in the dialog.

A rule that's still referenced by a location or employment type is protected — {{ app_name }} blocks the delete and tells you what's using it. Reassign those references first.

To delete several rules at once, tick the checkboxes on the list, then click **'Delete'** in the bulk action bar above the table.

## View a work rule

The detail page groups every constraint into sections — identity, daily, weekly, rest & fatigue, overtime, premiums, Swiss night-work — and lists the linked break rules, locations, employment types, and people on the right.

## Verify it worked

The rule appears in the list with the right country and state, and its detail page shows the constraints you set. Open a shift in a location that uses the rule — calendar tooltips and validation badges reflect the new limits.
