# Add a skill to a person

**For:** Manager | Admin
**You'll need:** At least one skill defined — see {doc}`/set-up-your-company/skills/add-a-skill`.

You'll attach a skill to a person at a chosen level. If the skill is a certification, you can also set an expiration date.

## Open the skills section

1. Go to **Company → People** in the left sidebar.
2. Open the person.
3. Expand the **'Skills'** section.

## Add the skill

1. Click **'Add skill'**.
2. Open the **'Skill'** dropdown and pick one.
3. Choose a **'Level'** — one of **'Beginner'**, **'Advanced'**, **'Professional'**, or **'Certified'**.
4. (Optional) For certifications, pick an **'Expiration date'**.
5. Click **'Save'**.

## Verify it worked

The skill appears in the **'Skills'** section with its level badge. Certifications carry a **'Cert'** badge; expired ones get an additional **'Expired'** badge.
