# How to extend or shorten your time off

**For:** Shift worker
**You'll need:** A leave request of your own that's still **'Pending'** or **'Confirmed'**.

Still ill on day two? Back a day early? Change the end date of the absence you already have instead of filing a second request. {{ app_name }} works out the new hours, updates your balance, and tells your manager.

## Change the end date

Pick the last day you're **off**, not the day you're back.

## What happens next

Coming back earlier, or changing a request your manager hasn't reviewed yet, takes effect immediately.

Adding days to an absence that's already approved depends on the type of leave:

Sick leave
: The extra days are added straight away and your manager is notified. You stay marked as away the whole time, so nobody schedules you.

Vacation and most other leave
: The extra days go to your manager as a new request, in **'Pending'**. Your original time off is unaffected while they decide.

Either way your balance is recalculated for the new dates — you're never charged for days you took back.

## Verify it worked

The absence shows its new range. If the extra days went for approval instead, you'll see a second entry marked **'Pending'** covering just those days.
