# Why "My availability" hides recurring rules: Mode A

**For:** Shift worker
**You'll need:** Nothing.

If your account is set up as **'always available'** (Mode A), the recurring availability section is hidden and an info banner explains why.

## What Mode A means

In Mode A, your manager schedules you whenever — they don't need a recurring availability pattern from you, because you're treated as available unless you say otherwise (with a one-time unavailability or a leave request).

## What you can still do

- Add a one-time **'Unavailable'** block for a day off the books.
- File a leave request for vacation, sick, or other formal time off.

## Switching modes

The mode is set by your manager on your person settings — see {doc}`/settings-and-admin/personal-settings/index`. If you'd like to switch to **'Set my availability'** (Mode B), ask them.
