# How to add a shift from the calendar

**For:** Manager
**You'll need:** At least one location and one position.

There are three ways to start a new shift from the calendar — pick the one that matches what you already know about the shift.

## Drag-create on an empty slot

1. In a timeline or block view, click and drag across the empty time slot you want.
2. Release the mouse — the shift create form opens with the dragged start and end pre-filled.
3. Fill in the remaining fields and click **'Save'**.

## Use the 'Add new shift' button

1. In the toolbar, click **'Add new shift'**.
2. Fill in the form — the date defaults to the calendar's current view.
3. Click **'Save'**.

## Use the month-cell '+' icon

1. In month grid view, hover over a day cell.
2. Click the blue **'+'** icon that appears.
3. The form opens with that day pre-filled.

## Verify it worked

A new shift block appears on the calendar at the chosen time. A success toast confirms the create with the shift's date and time.
