# Rules & compliance

Configure the labor-law guardrails {{ app_name }} applies whenever you plan a shift, record time, or pay out hours.

Three things live here. **Work rules** define daily and weekly limits, overtime tiers, and pay premiums for a country and state. **Break rules** define when a break is required, how long it is, and whether it's paid. **Time compensation** is the read-only ledger of credit hours that build up — mostly from Swiss night-work — and any manual adjustments HR adds to it.
