# How to open the assignment form

**For:** Manager
**You'll need:** A shift.

The full assignment form lets you set the person, role, and any per-assignment notes — heavier than the calendar's quick-assign dropdown but with more control.

1. Open the shift from the calendar or the {doc}`/plan-schedules/shift-list/index`.
2. Click **'Assign new person'**.

The assignment create form opens.

There's no separate assignment form on mobile — assigning happens inside the shift editor, which is manager-only.

1. Tap **Shifts** in the bottom bar and tap the shift.
2. Tap **Edit** in the top bar.
3. Scroll to **Assignments**. On Android every candidate is listed there with an **Assign** button; on iOS the section lists who's assigned and a final **Add assignment** row opens the candidate sheet.

The section only exists on a saved shift — a shift you're creating has none until you save it.

## Verify it worked

You see the assignment form with the eligible-people dropdown ready. In the mobile app you're in the shift editor with the **Assignments** section showing the candidates, or a message that there's no one eligible to assign.
