# How to award a marketplace offer

**For:** Manager | Admin
**You'll need:** An offer with at least one **'Pending'** response — status **'Pending approval'** for a give-away or swap, **'Open'** or **'Partially filled'** for an open shift.

Awarding is the moment the shift actually changes hands. {{ app_name }} re-checks the rules one last time, then moves the assignment.

## Award

:::{tab-item} Web
:sync: web

1. Open **Planning → 'Manage marketplace'** and click the offer.
2. Under **'Responses'**, read who's put themselves forward. For a **1:1 swap**, check the **'Return shift'** each responder is offering back.
3. On the response you want, click **'Award'**.

:::{tab-item} Mobile app
:sync: mobile

1. Tap **More** in the bottom bar, then **'Manager' → 'Manage marketplace'**.
2. Tap the offer. Use the **'Open shifts'** or **'Swaps'** segment to find it.
3. Tap **'Responses'** to see who's put themselves forward. Each row shows the responder, their note, their status, and — on a **1:1 swap** — the return shift they're offering back.
4. Tap the response you want. The full return shift and note get room here.
5. Tap **'Award'** at the top right.

**'Award'** only appears while the response is still **'Pending'**. When it goes through, the app takes you straight back to the refreshed queue.

## What happens

- The shift moves to the chosen person. For a **1:1 swap**, their return shift moves to the original owner at the same time — both in one step. For an **open shift**, a new assignment is created.
- The chosen response is marked **'Selected'**.
- If every spot is now filled, the offer becomes **'Completed'** and the remaining responses are marked **'Not selected'**. If spots are still free, it stays **'Partially filled'** and keeps accepting responses.
- Everyone involved — the original owner, the new owner, and anyone who missed out — is notified.

```{warning}
{{ app_name }} re-validates at award: position and location qualification, skills, availability, confirmed leave, no double-booking, and the approval lock. If the shift's hours have since been approved (locking it) or a responder is no longer eligible, the award is refused. If your overtime rule is set to **'Block approval'**, an award that would push someone over their work-time limits can't go through.
```

## Verify it worked

The offer reloads with a **'Completed'** (or **'Partially filled'**) badge and the response you picked reads **'Selected'**. Open the shift and you'll see the new assignee; for a 1:1 swap, the return shift now belongs to the original owner.
