# How to create a schedule template

**For:** Manager
**You'll need:** Nothing.

Create the empty template here, then fill it with shifts in the {doc}`/plan-schedules/template-calendar/index`.

## Open the create form

1. Go to **Planning → Templates**, then click **'Edit'** in the toolbar.
2. Click **'Create template'**.

## Fill in the form

1. Enter a **'Name'** — for example "Standard summer week" or "Christmas month".
2. Choose a **'Type'**:
   - **'Day'** — a single day of shifts, replicated across each day of the target view (day, week, or month).
   - **'Week'** — applies aligned by weekday (Monday-shifts go to Mondays); applies into a week or month view.
   - **'Month'** — applies aligned by ordinal weekday (the second Tuesday of the template goes to the second Tuesday of the target month); applies to a month only.
3. Click **'Save'**.

## Add shifts to it

After save, the template is empty. Open it in the {doc}`/plan-schedules/template-calendar/index` to add the shifts that make up the pattern.

## Verify it worked

The new template appears in the list. Opening it shows an empty calendar ready to be filled.
