# Personal settings

These settings only affect *you*. Change your language, the way the calendar looks, how you're notified, whether {{ app_name }} should treat you as always available, and the default grouping for the cross-reference (MLP) blocks on the company pages.

All personal settings live on one page: open the account dropdown (top-right) and click **'Settings'**. Each section below is documented separately.

In the mobile app they live under the **Settings** tab in the bottom bar, grouped into **Account**, **Preferences**, and **About**. Your language, region, timezone, first day of the week, notification preferences, and the validation-message level are all there. Region, timezone, first day of the week, and the notification settings are shared with the web — set them on either and they apply everywhere.

## Settings that only exist in the app

Four settings have no web equivalent, because they're about the phone rather than the schedule. All four are per-device: turning one on doesn't affect your other phone or the browser.

- **Appearance** (Preferences) — whether the app follows the system theme or is forced to **'Light'** or **'Dark'**.
- **Language** (Preferences) — the language of the app on that device. It doesn't change the web app or your emails; for that, see {doc}`language-and-region`.
- **Sync shifts to calendar** (Account) — writes your shifts into the phone's own calendar. The first time you turn it on, the phone asks for calendar access. Turning it off asks whether to remove the shifts {{ app_name }} added, or leave them behind.
- **Require Face ID / passcode** (Account) — locks the app behind the device's own biometrics or passcode. Both turning it on and turning it off ask you to confirm your identity first, so only the device owner can change it. If the phone has no Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode set up, the app says so and the switch stays off.
