# How to assign a person from the eligible pool

**For:** Manager
**You'll need:** A shift and at least one person eligible for its position and location.

The **'Person'** dropdown only lists people who are in the MLP (Minimum Legal Personnel) pool for the shift's position and location — they're at minimum permitted to work this kind of shift.

## Pick the person

:::{tab-item} Web
:sync: web

1. Open the assignment form (see {doc}`open-the-assignment-form`).
2. Open the **'Person'** dropdown — it's filtered to the MLP-eligible pool.
3. Read the validation badges next to each name (see {doc}`eligibility-badges`).
4. Click the person you want.

:sync: mobile

1. Open the shift, tap **Edit**, and scroll to **Assignments** (see {doc}`open-the-assignment-form`).
2. The candidates are the same MLP-eligible pool as on the web. Each name carries its validation messages underneath, colour-coded red (blocking), amber (warning), and blue (info) — the same severities as the web badges.
3. On Android, tap **Assign** next to the person. On iOS, tap **Add assignment** and then the person in the sheet.

## Save

1. Click **'Save'**.

Assigning commits straight away — there's nothing extra to save. **Save** / **Done** in the top bar saves the shift's own fields.

```{tip}
You can still assign someone past a warning badge (e.g. a labor-law warning), but the form blocks you on a hard error like a missing required skill.
```

## Verify it worked

The person now appears on the shift block in the calendar and in the assignment list on the shift edit page.
