# How to edit a recurring shift

**For:** Manager
**You'll need:** A recurring shift.

When you save changes to a recurring shift, {{ app_name }} asks how far the change should reach — just **'This'** occurrence, this and all **'Following'** ones, or **'All'** occurrences in the series.

## Open the shift

::::{tab-set}
:sync-group: platform

:::{tab-item} Web
:sync: web

1. Click any occurrence in the series — from the calendar or the {doc}`/plan-schedules/shift-list/index`.
:::

:::{tab-item} Mobile app
:sync: mobile

1. Tap **Shifts** in the bottom bar and tap any occurrence in the series.
2. The detail marks it — **Part of a recurring series**, with an **Edit parent shift** link when you need the pattern itself.
3. Tap **Edit** in the top bar (managers only).
:::
::::

## Make your changes and save

::::{tab-set}
:sync-group: platform

:::{tab-item} Web
:sync: web

1. Edit any field.
2. Click **'Save'** — the scope chooser modal opens.
:::

:::{tab-item} Mobile app
:sync: mobile

1. Change any field.
2. Tap **Save** in the top bar (**Done** on iOS) — the **Apply changes to** sheet opens.

On an occurrence the repeat settings are locked; open the parent shift to change the pattern.
:::
::::

## Choose the scope

This
: Only this occurrence is changed. The series's pattern is untouched, and this occurrence is now an exception.

Following
: This occurrence and every later one are changed. The original series is split: the old series ends just before this date, and a new series starts here with your edits.

All
: The entire series is regenerated from your edits. Per-occurrence exceptions you previously set with **'This'** are preserved.

::::{tab-set}
:sync-group: platform

:::{tab-item} Web
:sync: web

1. Click your choice.
:::

:::{tab-item} Mobile app
:sync: mobile

1. In the **Apply changes to** sheet, tap **This occurrence only**, **This and following**, or **Entire series** — the same three scopes, under mobile names.

If you also moved the start date and picked **This and following** or **Entire series**, a second sheet asks how the date change should apply — see {doc}`change-the-date-of-a-recurring-shift`.
:::
::::

## Verify it worked

A success toast confirms the change. Open neighbouring occurrences to confirm the scope behaved as you picked.
