# How to set the attendance grace period

**For:** Admin
**You'll need:** Owner or Admin role.

You'll set how many minutes after a shift's start time count as "on time" before {{ app_name }} marks the worker as late or absent.

## Open the company settings

1. Open the account dropdown (top-right) and click **'Settings'**.
2. In the right column, find the **'Attendance'** section.

## Set the grace minutes

1. In the **'Attendance grace period (minutes)'** field, enter the number of minutes (for example **'5'**).

Anyone who clocks in within this window is treated as on time. After it, the time entry shows as late, and after a longer threshold the shift is recorded as absent.

```{note}
The grace period cuts both ways: it's also the window in which someone is allowed to clock in **early**. The kiosk looks for the next shift scheduled at that tablet's location and area within the grace window either side of its start — so nobody can arrive two hours before their shift and start the clock. Widen the grace period if your team legitimately shows up well ahead.
```

The same value decides when a forgotten clock-out gets its reminder push — see {doc}`/track-time/when-someone-forgets-to-clock-out`.

## Save

Click **'Save'**.

## Verify it worked

Open the {doc}`/reports-and-payroll/attendance` report. Late and absent flags reflect the new grace value.
