How to manage break rules#
For: Admin You’ll need: A clear picture of which shift lengths trigger which breaks under your local labor law.
You’ll create, edit, and delete the break rules that Shiftavo applies to scheduled shifts. One form covers identity, eligibility, waivers, and the trigger that decides when the break starts.
Open the break rules list#
In the left sidebar, go to Company → Break rules.
You see one row per rule with its name, code, priority, and the shift-length window that triggers it. Use the ‚Filters‘ panel to narrow the list, and click a column header to sort.
Create a break rule#
Click ‚New break rule‘ in the top-right.
Fill in the ‚Name‘, ‚Code‘, and ‚Priority‘ fields. See Eligibility and trigger.
Set the eligibility fields — the minimum shift length that triggers the rule, the break duration, whether it’s paid, and whether the worker may leave the workplace by default.
(Optional) Tick any waivers that apply.
Choose how the break is positioned in the shift — by ‚Offset‘ from shift start, or at a ‚Fixed time‘.
Click ‚Save‘.
You’re returned to the list with the new rule selected.
Edit a break rule#
Click the rule in the list to open its detail page.
Click ‚Edit‘ in the top-right.
Change any field, then click ‚Save‘.
Changes apply to new shifts immediately and to existing shifts on the next validation pass.
Delete a break rule#
Open the kebab menu (⋮) on the row and click ‚Delete‘.
Confirm in the dialog.
To delete several at once, tick the checkboxes on the list and click ‚Delete‘ in the bulk action bar above the table.
Verify it worked#
The rule appears in the list with the priority you set. Open a shift long enough to trigger it — the shift detail shows the break inserted at the right position, with the right duration and paid flag.
