How to rotate or replace a kiosk device#

For: Owner / Admin You’ll need: Access to the kiosk device list.

Two scenarios. Pick the one that matches.

Rotate the password (same tablet)#

Use this when:

  • You lost the original password.

  • The tablet was used by a temp staff member who left.

  • Routine hygiene — quarterly rotation, post-incident, etc.

Steps:

  1. In the left sidebar, go to Planning → Kiosks.

  2. Open the device.

  3. Click ‚Rotate password‘.

  4. Copy the new plaintext password from the success page — it’s shown exactly once.

  5. On the tablet, sign out of the kiosk session and sign back in with the same email and the new password.

The device row, the location/area, and every past punch are preserved. Only the credential changes.

Replace the tablet (decommission and re-add)#

Use this when:

  • The tablet broke or was lost or stolen.

  • You’re moving the kiosk to a different location and want a clean break.

Steps:

  1. In the left sidebar, go to Planning → Kiosks.

  2. Open the device that no longer applies.

  3. Click ‚Delete‘.

  4. Add a new device — see How to add a kiosk device.

  5. Sign the new tablet in — see How to sign in the tablet.

Deleting the device also hard-deletes the tablet’s login at Shiftavo, so a stolen tablet stops working immediately even if no one notices for a while.

Tipp

Past punches stay on the timesheet regardless of whether the device that recorded them still exists. Deleting a device does not erase history.

Verify it worked#

  • After rotation: the tablet signs in with the new password and the ‚Last seen‘ column updates within a few minutes.

  • After replacement: the old device is gone from the list; the new one shows up.
