Premiums#
For: Admin You’ll need: Permission to change work policies, and a work policy open — see How to manage work policies.
Premiums are the multipliers you pay for working an unsocial hour — Sunday, a public holiday, or the night band. They sit alongside the overtime tiers on the work policy, and a single field decides how they combine when more than one applies to the same hour.
What it does#
Three premium multipliers and one stacking choice:
‘Sunday multiplier’. Applied to hours worked on a Sunday. The model default is 1.00 (no premium); Swiss-seeded policies set 1.50.
‘Public holiday multiplier’. Applied to hours worked on a date flagged as a public holiday under Holidays. Model default 1.00; Swiss seed 1.50. The holiday’s own multiplier override (if any) takes precedence over the policy default.
‘Night shift multiplier’. Applied to hours inside the night band — the ‘Night shift start’ / ‘Night shift end’ times on the policy (default 23:00 – 06:00). Model default 1.00; Swiss seed 1.25. For the Swiss time-credit interaction, see Swiss night-work compensation (ArG 17b).
‘Premium stacking mode’ — the dropdown that decides what happens when more than one premium (overtime included) applies to the same hour:
‘Additive (sum the premiums)’ — the uplifts add: the multiplier is 1 + the sum of each premium’s uplift. Sunday 1.50× + night 1.25× → 1 + 0.50 + 0.25 = 1.75×.
‘Multiplicative (multiply the multipliers)’ — the multipliers multiply. Same hour: 1.50 × 1.25 = 1.875×.
‘Max (apply only the highest premium)’ — only the highest premium applies. Same hour: 1.50×.
When it kicks in#
Premiums are calculated on confirmed time entries. Overtime is not applied separately first — the overtime multiplier (Overtime tiers) joins the Sunday, holiday, and night premiums as one more premium on the hour, and the stacking mode combines them all. On an additive policy, a Sunday overtime hour at OT 1.25× and Sunday 1.50× pays base × (1 + 0.25 + 0.50).
Note
On Swiss-seeded policies the ‘Night multiplier is the statutory 25%’ box is ticked. For a regular night worker this replaces the night cash premium with the 10% time credit: the night multiplier is forced to 1 and the hours accrue time compensation instead — see Swiss night-work compensation (ArG 17b).
How it shows in the app#
Payroll detail report. One applied multiplier per row, with a breakdown string explaining which premiums produced it.
Shift detail. A shift that falls inside the night band, on a Sunday, or on a holiday is tagged with the matching badges on the calendar — that’s how you know a premium will trigger before the shift is even worked.
Verify it worked#
Confirm a time entry for a shift that lands on a premium hour, then open the Payroll detail. That row’s applied multiplier matches what your stacking mode predicts, and its multiplier_breakdown in the export names each premium that produced it.
