How to create a leave-typed availability block

How to create a leave-typed availability block#

For: Manager You’ll need: A person and a leave policy that applies to them.

If you create an unavailability with a leave type — vacation, sick, unpaid, and the other absence types — Shiftavo also creates a leave request and routes it through the approval workflow.

Open the create form#

  1. Go to Planning → Availability list and click ‘Create unavailability’.

Fill in the block#

  1. Pick the ‘Person’.

  2. Open the ‘Unavailability type’ dropdown and choose ‘Vacation’ (or ‘Sick’, ‘Unpaid’, ‘Other absence’, ‘Bereavement’, ‘Civic duty’, ‘Military service’, ‘Care leave’).

  3. Set the start and end.

Save#

  1. Click ‘Save’.

A leave request is automatically created for the same window. It enters the standard approval workflow — see Leave requests.

Warning

Don’t double-book: if the person already has an overlapping unavailability or leave — pending or approved — you’ll see a validation error. Pick other dates, or first decline, revoke, or delete the existing entry.

Verify it worked#

The availability block appears with the leave type, and a matching leave request shows up under Leave requests.
