Why you got a “credit overdue” notification

Why you got a “credit overdue” notification#

For: Manager | Admin You’ll need: Swiss night-work time compensation turned on — see Auto-accrual of night-work credit.

Swiss law (ArG Art. 17b Abs. 2) doesn’t just require the 10% time credit for night work — it expects the employer to grant it as time off within one year of it accruing. Shiftavo checks this daily and notifies managers when someone’s credit has aged past that window.

The overdue check#

Every day, Shiftavo looks at each person’s time-compensation ledger:

  1. Consumption (comp-time taken, termination payouts, negative corrections) is applied to the oldest credit first.

  2. Whatever credit remains from entries more than 12 months old counts as overdue.

  3. If the result is above zero, the managers who can review that person’s leave requests get the notification “Night-work time credit overdue to grant”, naming the person and the overdue hours.

Example. Nadia accrued 8 credit hours in May last year and 4 this January, and has taken 5 hours of comp time since. The 5 hours count against last May’s 8 first, leaving 3 hours that are now more than a year old — managers are notified about 3 overdue hours.

The check repeats daily but won’t re-notify about the same person while an earlier notification is still fresh.

What to do#

The credit is not forfeited — the law forbids erasing the rest entitlement. Schedule the compensating time off now:

  1. Plan the person’s comp time and record it against the ledger (a negative manual adjustment with a note, matched to the time off you scheduled).

  2. If the person is leaving instead, the remaining balance settles automatically as a termination payout once their termination date has passed.

Verify it worked#

Open Reports → Time accounts and switch to the ‘Night-work credit’ selection. The ‘Overdue’ KPI tile counts the people the notification is about, and their rows carry the amber ‘Overdue (h)’ figure and a ‘Take by’ date.
