Auto-seed holidays from country#

Statutory holidays are populated for you from each location’s country and state — there is no seed button to press. This page explains when that happens and what to do when rows are missing.
When seeding happens#
Shiftavo seeds holidays automatically the moment a location is created, however you create it — the location form, the public API, or provisioning. It fills a window of roughly 18 months either side of today from the location’s country and state, and tags every row it creates ‘Auto’.
When you sign up, the first location Shiftavo creates for you is stamped with a sensible default region for your country, because signup asks for a country but not a state — and several countries have a very thin calendar without one. Switzerland, for instance, knows only four holidays with no canton set. Check the state on that location and correct it, which rebuilds the calendar (below).
Changing a location’s country or state#
Change the ‘Country’ or ‘State/Province’ on a location and its calendar is rebuilt for the new region: ‘Auto’ rows the new region doesn’t have are removed, and the new region’s holidays are seeded across the same ±18-month window. ‘Manual’ rows are never touched. This happens on the location form and on the public API alike. Renaming a location, or editing anything other than the region, changes nothing.
Warning
A genuine region change starts that region’s calendar fresh, so an ‘Auto’ holiday you had previously deleted comes back. Delete it again, or edit it first so it becomes ‘Manual’ and is protected.

Keeping the calendar up to date#
A monthly background job extends the horizon by one month at the far edge, so the calendar always reaches about 18 months ahead. It only ever looks at that far edge, so holidays you have already edited or deleted nearer to today are never revisited or restored.
Note
‘Manual’ rows are never touched by seeding. Editing an ‘Auto’ row converts it to ‘Manual’, which protects it from then on.
Verify it worked#
Rows appear at Company → Holidays with an ‘Auto’ badge. Filter by ‘Source’ → ‘Auto’ to see them grouped.
