How to answer the break questions#
For: Shift worker You’ll need: A shift you’ve clocked out of, at a company whose break policy pays for missed breaks.
Some companies ask, after you clock out, whether you got the breaks you were entitled to that day. Your answers go on record with your hours, and a missed break can mean extra pay. You’ll answer right after clocking out, or later from your timesheet.
There are up to two questions, one per kind of break:
“Did you get every meal break you were entitled to today?” — ‘Yes’, ‘I chose to skip or shorten one’ or ‘Work prevented one’.
“Did you get every rest break you were entitled to today?” — ‘Yes’, ‘I chose to skip or shorten one’ or ‘One wasn’t provided’.
Answer what actually happened. Your answers don’t change your recorded hours or breaks.
Clock out as usual. The tablet shows ‘Clocked out’, your name and “About your breaks today:” with the questions.
Tap an answer to each question.
Tap ‘Send’.
‘Skip’ closes the questions without answering. So does a minute without a tap, so the next person can punch. You can still answer later on the web or in the app.
Tap ‘Clock out’ and confirm. ‘About your breaks today’ opens with the questions.
Pick an answer to each question.
Tap ‘Send’.
‘Skip’, or closing the sheet, sends your clock-out without answers. It works offline too: the answers wait with your clock-out and go out with it.
To answer later, or to change an answer:
Tap More in the bottom bar, then ‘Timesheets’.
Tap the finished shift, then ‘Answer break questions’. Your earlier answers are already picked.
Pick your answers and tap ‘Send’.
Answering later needs a connection. If the app says “Your clock-out was recorded, but your break answers weren’t saved.”, your hours are safe — answer again from your timesheet.
In the sidebar, go to Planning → Management → Timesheet. You’ll see only your own shifts.
Click the finished shift to open it.
In ‘Answer break questions’, choose an answer to each question.
Click ‘Save answers’.
A later answer replaces the earlier one. Your manager sees your answers and can add a reason; neither changes your hours.

Open the shift on your timesheet again: your answers are picked. In the app, ‘Answer break questions’ opens with them selected.
