How to post an open shift#
For: Manager | Admin You’ll need: The marketplace turned on, with open shifts allowed. A shift that still needs people.
You’ll publish a vacancy to everyone qualified to work it, instead of chasing people one at a time. Eligible employees see it on their marketplace, respond, and either claim it outright or wait for you to pick.
Post the shift#
Open the shift you want to fill (from the calendar or the shift list).
Click ‘Post open shift’.
In the ‘Spots’ field, enter how many people you need. One is the default; more than one is only possible on an open shift.
Open the ‘Claim mode’ dropdown and choose:
‘Manager picks’ — responses collect and you decide. The default.
‘First come’ — the first eligible responder is awarded the shift immediately, with no step for you.
(Optional) In the ‘Note’ field, add anything the candidates should know.
Click ‘Save’.
You start from the queue rather than the shift — the app asks which shift to post as its first step.
Tap More in the bottom bar, then ‘Manager’.
Tap ‘Manage marketplace’.
Tap ‘Post open shift’.
Pick the shift you want to fill from the list of upcoming shifts. Its start, end, location, area, and position are then shown at the top of the form so the vacancy is unambiguous.
Tap ‘Spots’ and choose how many people you need (1 is the default, up to 20).
Tap ‘Claim mode’ and choose:
‘Manager selects’ — responses collect and you decide. The default.
‘First come, first served’ — the first eligible responder is awarded the shift immediately.
(Optional) Type anything the candidates should know in ‘Notes’.
Tap ‘Save’.
‘Post open shift’ is greyed out while you’re offline — the picker needs the server to list shifts.
Everyone eligible is notified, and the shift now carries an open-offer alert at the top of its assignment page.
Tip
‘First come’ is right for routine cover where anyone qualified will do — it fills the shift in minutes and costs you nothing. ‘Manager picks’ is right when you care who takes it: overtime cost, experience mix, or a training pairing.
Multi-spot offers#
If you asked for more than one spot, the offer stays live after the first award and its status reads ‘Partially filled’ until every spot is taken. Then it becomes ‘Completed’.
Verify it worked#
The shift’s assignment page shows the open-offer alert, and the offer appears in Planning → ‘Manage marketplace’ with status ‘Open’, its ‘Spots’ count, and ‘Posted on’ set to now. An eligible employee sees it under Planning → ‘Shift marketplace’.
