How to turn off two-factor authentication#
For: Manager | Shift worker | Admin You’ll need: Your password and a current code from your authenticator app.
Switching two-factor authentication off leaves your password as the only thing protecting your account. Do it when you’re moving to a new phone and want to start over, not as a way around a code you can’t produce right now.
Warning
Your recovery codes are deleted along with the authenticator app. If you’re replacing a lost phone rather than retiring two-factor authentication, see I can’t produce a two-factor code first.
Switch it off#
Open the account menu (top-right) and click ‘Account’.
Click the ‘Two-factor authentication’ card.
On the ‘Authenticator app’ card, click ‘Deactivate’.
Confirm it’s you on the ‘Confirm access’ screen — with your password, or with a code from your authenticator app.
Enter the current six-digit code from your authenticator app in the ‘Authenticator code’ field.
Click ‘Deactivate’.
Step 5 isn’t a duplicate of step 4. Turning the second factor off needs the authenticator itself, so a stolen password alone can’t strip it.
Verify it worked#
The ‘Authenticator app’ card shows an ‘Off’ badge and an ‘Activate’ button, the ‘On’ badge is gone from the account page, and you get an email confirming the authenticator app was deactivated.
Delete the Shiftavo entry in your authenticator app too — it will keep generating codes nobody asks for otherwise.
