How to delete a role#

For: Admin You’ll need: A plan that includes custom roles — Plus or Pro — permission to delete roles, and a role your company added itself with nobody on it.

You’ll remove a role you no longer use. Deleting a role never deletes people: Shiftavo refuses the delete while anyone still holds it.

Move the people off it first#

  1. In the sidebar, go to Company → Roles.

  2. Open the role and read the ‘People’ panel on the right.

  3. Open each person’s profile and give them another role — see Edit a person.

The ‘People’ column on the Roles list has to read 0 before the delete goes through.

Delete#

  1. Open the role.

  2. Click ‘Delete’ at the bottom of the form.

  3. Confirm in the dialog.

You’re returned to the Roles list with a confirmation.

Note

Built-in roles have no ‘Delete’ button — the five that ship with Shiftavo can’t be removed on any plan.

If the delete is refused#

  • “Move the people on this role to another one before deleting it.” — someone still holds it. The ‘People’ panel on the role’s page names them.

  • The role is still used by records. Something other than a membership still points at the role. Move those over first; the message says how many.

Verify it worked#

The role is gone from Company → Roles, and everyone who held it appears under their new role.
