How to acknowledge an extended absence#
For: Manager | Admin You’ll need: A leave request carrying the ‘Extended’ flag.
You’ll clear the flag Shiftavo raises when a worker lengthens an absence you already approved. The absence itself needs no second approval — acknowledging is you confirming you’ve seen it and dealt with the coverage.
Why the request is back in your queue#
When someone extends their own sick leave, the request stays ‘Confirmed’ and stays booked. It deliberately does not drop back to ‘Pending’: pending leave doesn’t block the schedule, so reverting it would make the days the person is actually ill look bookable again.
Instead the request is flagged. The extra days usually carry shifts that now need cover, so the flag is what puts it in front of you.
A manager’s own end-date change never raises the flag — making the change is the review.
Find flagged requests#
In the header, go to Company → Leave requests.
Open the ‘Filter’ panel and tick ‘Only extended, needs review’.
Click the row. Flagged requests also carry an ‘Extended’ badge next to their status, on both the list and the detail.
Tap More → Manager → ‘Leave requests’.
Tap a ‘Confirmed’ request. A flagged one shows an ‘Extension awaiting acknowledgement’ row with the time the worker made the change. There’s no filter on mobile, so scroll to find it.
Acknowledge#
Click ‘Acknowledge’ at the top of the review form.
Tap ‘Acknowledge extension’.
The button only appears while the flag is set, so there’s nothing to acknowledge twice.
Verify it worked#
The ‘Extended’ badge disappears and the request drops out of the ‘Only extended, needs review’ filter. Its status is unchanged — it was, and stays, ‘Confirmed’.
Note
The flag also clears on its own if you revoke or decline the request, or if you change its end date yourself. All three are a decision, so a separate acknowledgement would be noise.
