I can’t assign a person to a shift#
For: Manager You’ll need: Nothing.
You opened the person dropdown on a shift and the name you wanted is greyed out, missing entirely, or shows a red error icon. Shiftavo blocks assignments that would break a hard rule, and warns you about ones that would break a soft rule.
Check four possibilities#
MLP gap — the person isn’t qualified for this position at this location. The dropdown is filtered to people who appear in the location’s MLP (Member–Location–Position) list for the shift’s position. If the person isn’t in it, they won’t show up at all. Add them on the location detail page — see Manage the MLP block on a location.
Skill gap. The position requires one or more skills (or certifications) that the person doesn’t hold, or whose certification has expired. The candidate row shows a red badge. Either add the skill on the person’s profile, or pick someone else.
Availability conflict. If the person is on ‘Mode B’ availability (only available when an availability block says so) and there’s no block covering the shift’s time, the row shows an unavailable warning. Either ask the person to add an availability block, switch them to ‘Mode A’ in their settings, or pick someone else.
Labor-law breach. The assignment would violate a work-rule constraint — daily/weekly hours cap, missing rest break, consecutive-day limit. The row shows a labor-law warning. Move the shift, shrink it, or pick a different person. See How to read the eligibility badges for the full list of validation badges.
