How to manage your notifications#
For: Manager | Shift worker | Admin You’ll need: Nothing.
Shiftavo keeps you up to date over three channels: the notification bell in the app, email, and push to the mobile app. The bell and push are always on; what you control here is how often you get emails — and you can turn the push channel off. This article shows you how to read your notifications and set your email preferences.
Read your notifications#
In the top bar, click the bell icon. A small red badge shows how many you haven’t read yet.
The dropdown shows your five most recent notifications. Click one to open what it’s about (a shift, an offer, or a leave request).
Click ‘Mark all read’ to clear the badge.
To see your full history, click ‘View all’ at the bottom of the dropdown — it opens a page listing every notification, newest first, with a Read / Unread status on each.
Tap Inbox in the bottom bar. Every message is listed, newest first; unread ones are bold and carry a dot on the right.
Tap a message to open what it’s about (a shift, an offer, or a leave request). Opening it marks it read.
Tap ‘Mark all read’ in the top bar to clear them all at once. It only appears while something is unread.
Choose how often you get emails#
Your email preferences live on your settings page, one setting per topic.
In the top-right, open the account dropdown.
Click ‘Settings’.
Scroll to the ‘Notifications’ section.
For each topic, open the dropdown and pick how you want emails delivered:
Instant — an email the moment it happens.
Daily digest — one combined email each morning (the default).
Off — no emails for that topic. (You’ll still see these in the bell.)
Click ‘Save’.
Tap Settings in the bottom bar.
Under Account, tap ‘Notification settings’.
For each topic — ‘Shift acceptance’, ‘Marketplace’, ‘Leave’, ‘General’ — tap the row and pick ‘Instant’, ‘Daily’, or ‘Off’.
Each pick saves itself; there’s no ‘Save’ button. These are the same preferences as on the web, so whichever device you set them on, they apply everywhere.
The topics you can set:
Shift acceptance emails — shifts to accept, cancellations, and reassignments.
Shift marketplace emails — open shifts, swaps, and offers.
Leave emails — leave requests and decisions.
General emails — other updates.
Note
Some emails are always sent right away, whatever you choose — for example, a leave decision or being awarded a shift. These are time-sensitive, so they skip the daily digest. Setting a topic to Off still silences its emails entirely.
Note
Two kinds of notification don’t have a setting of their own and follow ‘General emails’: compliance alerts that need a human correction, and kiosk-device alerts such as a camera that stopped working (see What to do when the kiosk camera stops working). Set ‘General emails’ to Off and you mute those too.
Turn mobile push on or off#
This is a single switch for all push — there’s no per-topic push setting.
In the same ‘Notifications’ section, the ‘Push notifications’ checkbox controls whether the mobile app receives push. Tick it on or off and click ‘Save’.
Tap Settings in the bottom bar.
Under Account, tap ‘Notification settings’.
Turn the ‘Push notifications’ switch on or off. It saves itself.
Switching it off stops push on every device signed in as you, not just this phone.
Get a nudge before your shift starts#
Shiftavo can send you a push shortly before each shift begins, so nothing sneaks up on you. It’s one setting shared by web and phone — set it in either place. The default is ‘1 hour before’.
In the ‘Notifications’ section, open the ‘Shift reminder lead time’ dropdown.
Pick how far ahead you want it: ‘5 minutes before’ through to ‘1 day before’, or ‘Off’ to stop them.
Click ‘Save’.
Tap Settings in the bottom bar.
Under Account, tap ‘Notification settings’.
Tap ‘Shift reminder’ and pick how far ahead you want it: ‘5 minutes before’ through to ‘1 day before’, or ‘Off’ to stop them.
Note
The shift reminder is push only. It doesn’t appear in the notification bell or in the mobile inbox, so it can’t pile up unread. If push is switched off, you won’t get shift reminders at all.
There’s a companion reminder for the other end of the shift — the one that asks whether you forgot to clock out. See What happens when someone forgets to clock out.
Verify it worked#
After you click ‘Save’, reopen the settings page. The ‘Notifications’ section shows the choices you made — your email frequency per topic and the push checkbox.
